Getting to Luton from Kent
Usual route: M20 or A2 to the M25, over the Dartford Crossing, round to junction 21 for the M1 north to junction 10.
- For most of Kent, Luton is the longest transfer, and the Dart Charge (£3.50 each way in the daytime) and a £7 terminal drop-off charge both apply. Get a fixed all-in price rather than a metered fare.
- The M25 and M1 both carry heavy morning traffic. For a flight before 09:00 most drivers will suggest leaving Kent before 05:00.
- Luton has a single terminal. The drop-off zone is a short walk from the doors, and the driver can wait in the mid-stay car park for returns.
- By rail, Thameslink runs direct from Medway, Gravesend and Dartford to Luton Airport Parkway, and east Kent connects at St Pancras. A pre-booked car earns its keep for early departures, heavy luggage and groups, not because the train is impossible.
